For this project, we started off by reading a biography of Frida Kahlo in Spanish. The book was written entirely in the past tense, which was a new skill for me this year. After finishing, we picked our own "Frida," to write about and paint. I chose my scientist grandfather and the director of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory: David Shirley. I wrote a biography of his life in Spanish, and then created artwork based on a Frida painting: Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird.
